ImaginOn: While productions through the museum's Children's Theatre of Charlotte require paid entry, ImaginOn itself never charges an admission fee. The museum combines entertainment and education by providing kids through 5th grade an assortment of picture books, a wide variety of media and hands-on projects. Activities are also provided for teens allowing youth to interact with modern technology that includes blue screens and claymation as well as the chance to produce their own videos.

Museum of York County: Around the corner from Charlotte NC is the Museum of York County in Rock Hill, SC. Every Sunday, the museum waives admission fees allowing visitors to explore exhibits that include African art and stuffed animals ranging from small birds to giant buffaloes. Be sure to also visit The Settlemyre Planetarium to experience a virtual night sky projected onto the domed ceiling with thousands of stars and planets covering the ceiling above you.
Mint Museum: Looking for something to do during the week? Take a Tuesday evening to visit the Mint Museum Randolph or stop by the Mint Museum Uptown from 5-9 p.m. free of charge. Explore paintings from classical to modern day art and view exhibits that include pottery, vintage clothing and more.
Charlotte Folk Society: For those looking to get out of the house on the weekends, leave every second Friday of each month open and fill it with an hour-long concert from the Charlotte Folk Society. In addition to a hopping musical performance, guests can also enjoy complimentary refreshments and an after-concert jam session with a song circle where audience participation is encouraged.
NoDa Art Gallery Crawl: Every first and third Friday, the NoDa art district offers a chance for gallery crawlers to explore its galleries for free.
